Diabolus Lamia was the party. The date was Oct 31st 08. Our host was Chris Hawkins (BBC 6Music). My escort for the night was someone who rather not be named but for the purpose of this review shall be known as Funlop. The venue was the Old Finsbury Town Hall.

Upon our unfashionably tardy arrival, my escort and I found ourselves in front of a magnificent building dating back to 1895 with opulent façade and impressive marble entrance, a give away that this building was carefully chosen to awe the party goers and I think it worked in my case as I do like these old Victorian buildings. The same can't be said for all there present.

The entertainment was great. From an opera singer to burlesque dancers and everything in between, no expenses spared. Sonny J (Can’t Stop Moving) & RightNiceDJ’s played their sets but to me the highlight was Phil Jupitus (Never Mind the Buzzcocks) whose DJ set, even though a bit too early and a bit too short still managed to get the vampires, witches and weirdos dancing on a practically empty dance floor.

Now, let us get on to the “party” people and their costumes. I bought a costume specially for this party and it was obvious those who did the same and those who just thrown something together plus the cliché fake blood. But I am glad to say most people made an effort and to be fair some of the costumes were awesome. We also saw a handful of bores and/or prima donnas who didn’t dress up at all and I suppose those are the real scary ones of any Halloween party: the party poopers.

And so, between the odd dance, more booze, small talk with the divas in the ladies, cigarettes out the front and worrying about my escort who by then was no longer whining he had nothing to eat and moved on to “he didn’t feel well”, I did have a good night.

Big thanks than to Chris for the invite, Phil for the chat and cuddle (shame you left so early but I understand your girl needed picking up). Thanks to Funlop for showing up but not for leaving me alone.
